Free Instagram DM Automation Tools: What Is Actually Free

Several Instagram DM automation tools have a free plan as of October 2026, but each one caps something: ManyChat Free covers 25 active contacts a month, DMPilot 100 people, InstantDM and CreatorFlow 500 DMs, Reachlee and LinkDM 1,000 DMs, and ReplyRush 1,500 DMs without comment auto-replies. A free plan is enough to test one automation; a post that takes off outgrows it within a day. DMPilot’s paid plan is $9 a month flat.

The short answer on free

Free Instagram DM automation exists, but it means one of three things: a permanently free plan with a hard cap, a free trial that ends after a week or two, or a free tier that leaves out the feature you actually need. Knowing which of the three you are looking at saves a lot of time.

There is a structural reason for the caps. Compliant automation runs on Meta's official Instagram API, which means the vendor has gone through app review, runs webhook infrastructure and pays for delivery. That is a real cost floor, so free plans exist to get you started, not to run a business on. Tools that offer unlimited free automation deserve a second look, because the usual way to make that arithmetic work is to skip the official API, and that puts your account at risk.

Instagram's own free option is worth knowing too: Meta Business Suite has built-in automated replies for Instagram DMs, such as instant replies and answers to common questions. They are basic, but they cost nothing.

What a free tier usually restricts

Before you compare free plans, it helps to know which levers vendors pull.

  • A cap on active automations, often two to five
  • A monthly cap on DMs or on the people you message, after which sends stop or overage applies
  • A single connected Instagram account
  • No link click tracking or click-through rate reporting
  • No email capture or export of collected leads
  • Vendor branding added to your DMs
  • No follow gate, reminders or comment auto-replies

The free plans, one by one

Figures are from each vendor's pricing page on 9 October 2026.

ManyChat Free: 25 active contacts a month

ManyChat's Free plan covers 25 active contacts a month (people you message in that month), two channels, up to four live automations and one user, with ManyChat branding. It is a good way to see whether you like working in a visual flow builder, and it runs out on the first post that gets real engagement. Paid plans start at $17 a month, or $14 billed yearly; our ManyChat pricing guide shows what each plan costs at different audience sizes.

Reachlee Free: 1,000 DMs a month

Reachlee's free plan gives one Instagram account 1,000 DMs a month, 100 contacts and 10 leads, with comment, story and DM triggers and click tracking, plus Reachlee branding. The follow gate, follow-up reminders and scheduled messages are on Pro at $9 a month. See our Reachlee comparison.

LinkDM Free: up to 1,000 DMs a month

LinkDM's free plan covers one account and up to 1,000 DMs a month, with post, story and DM automations. Comment auto-replies, reminder DMs, the follower-growth tool and removing LinkDM branding are on Pro at $19 a month. See LinkDM alternatives.

InstantDM Free: 500 DM automations a month

InstantDM's free plan allows 500 DM automations a month on up to 5 posts with 3 trigger words, with no card required. Paid single-account plans start at $9.99 a month billed yearly, with a 7-day trial. See InstantDM alternatives.

CreatorFlow Free: 500 DMs a month

CreatorFlow's free plan includes comment-to-DM, story replies and unlimited keyword triggers on one account, capped at 500 DMs a month. It leaves out email collection and link click tracking, which are on Pro at $15 a month. See CreatorFlow alternatives.

ReplyRush, Inro, IGMsg and UChat

ReplyRush's free plan has the biggest DM allowance, 1,500 a month, but no comment auto-reply or email collector, so check it covers the trigger you need. Inro's free plan covers 100 active contacts and 3 automations a month. IGMsg's free plan allows 2 automations and 300 DMs a month. UChat's free plan covers one bot and 200 bot users.

DMPilot: free for 100 people a month

To be clear about our own product, since it is ours: DMPilot's free plan has no time limit and needs no card. It covers up to 100 people reached by automated DMs a month (each person counts once a month), up to 3 live automations and one Instagram account. On it you can run comment-to-DM on your keyword with a public reply under the comment, story-reply and keyword DMs, link buttons, ask for a follow first, and watch tracked links report clicks and click-through rate. At the limit, automations stop DMing new people until the next month or an upgrade; nothing is deleted. The paid plan is $9 a month or $81 a year, flat, with no limit on people or automations, and adds email capture inside the DM with consent text and one reminder DM when the link is not tapped. It runs on Meta's official Instagram API through an approved tech provider. It has no visual flow builder, no WhatsApp or Messenger, no agency workspaces and no product carousels. See DMPilot pricing.

Chatfuel: free trial only

Chatfuel has no permanent free plan; every plan starts with a free trial, and Business is $18 a month billed yearly. It is now an AI chatbot platform for WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook, so it suits stores more than creators sending a link.

Free tools that are not worth the risk

A separate group of "free" Instagram automation tools works by logging into your account with your username and password, or by driving a browser session that pretends to be you. These can appear to do more than API-based tools, including messaging people who never interacted with you, because they are not bound by the API rules.

They are also the fastest way to get action-blocked. Instagram detects automated session behaviour, and the consequences land on your account rather than the vendor. No free tier is worth a restriction on the account your business runs on. If a tool does not ask you to connect a Professional account through Meta, treat that as disqualifying.

How to test on a budget

Start on a free plan or a trial to confirm that DM automation moves anything at all for your audience. Run one automation on one post, send people somewhere you can measure, and look at click-through rather than send volume. Sends are easy to generate; clicks tell you whether the message was worth sending. Check that the free plan you pick includes link tracking, because several do not.

If the test works, the choice becomes a pricing-model question rather than a free-versus-paid one. Compare a flat monthly price against a capped or contact-based plan at your busiest month, using the pricing guide. Frequently asked questions

Is there a completely free Instagram DM automation tool?

Several tools have free plans, including ManyChat, Reachlee, LinkDM, InstantDM, CreatorFlow, ReplyRush and Inro, but each caps contacts or DMs per month and most leave out email capture, link tracking or branding removal. Meta Business Suite also has basic free automated replies for Instagram DMs.

Which free Instagram DM automation tool has the highest limit?

As of October 2026, ReplyRush's free plan has the largest DM allowance at 1,500 a month, but it leaves out comment auto-replies. Reachlee and LinkDM allow 1,000 DMs a month, and InstantDM and CreatorFlow 500. ManyChat Free covers 25 active contacts a month.

Does DMPilot have a free plan?

Yes. DMPilot's free plan needs no card and has no time limit: up to 100 people reached a month, 3 live automations and one Instagram account, with comment-to-DM, story replies, keyword DMs and tracked links. The paid plan is $9 a month or $81 a year, flat, with no limit on people or automations, and adds email capture and the reminder DM.

Is ManyChat free?

ManyChat has a Free plan with 25 active contacts a month, two channels, up to four live automations and ManyChat branding. Paid plans start at $17 a month, or $14 billed yearly, as of October 2026.

Why are free Instagram DM tools so limited?

Compliant tools run on Meta's official Instagram API, which requires app review, webhook infrastructure and ongoing delivery costs. That cost floor is why free plans cap DMs, contacts or automations.

Are free Instagram bots safe to use?

Only if they use the official Instagram API. Free tools that ask for your username and password, or that run a browser session as you, operate outside the API and can get your account action-blocked.
