How to cancel ManyChat
You cancel ManyChat from the billing or subscription area of your account settings in the web dashboard, and the change normally takes effect at the end of the period you have already paid for rather than immediately. Before you do it, decide whether you actually want to downgrade instead, and get a replacement running so your comment-to-DM funnel does not go dark.
Steps
- 1Sign in on the web as the billing ownerBilling controls live in the browser dashboard, not in any mobile view. Sign in with the account that owns the subscription. If you were invited into someone else's workspace as a team member, plan controls will not be visible to you at all, and the owner has to make the change.
- 2Open billing or subscription in settingsFind the settings section showing your current plan, renewal date, and payment method. Note the renewal date before you touch anything else. It tells you how long access continues after you cancel, which is the window you have to export data and stand up a replacement without a gap.
- 3Choose between downgrading and cancellingMost plan pages offer both. Downgrading moves you to the Free plan and keeps the account and the connected Instagram profile, within its limits: as of October 2026, 25 active contacts a month and up to four live automations. Cancelling ends the paid subscription outright. If there is any chance you come back, downgrading preserves the setup you already built.
- 4Export your data, then confirmExport contacts, collected email addresses, and a record of each automation with its keyword, copy, and link. Then complete the confirmation screen and read what it states about the effective date, since that is authoritative for your account. Keep the confirmation email as evidence if a later charge appears.
- 5Disconnect the Instagram permissionEnding a subscription and revoking access to your Instagram account are separate actions. In Instagram settings, open the section listing apps and websites with access and remove the tool there. Do this only after your replacement is connected and tested, so nothing is left unanswered in between.
What happens to your automations and contacts
Cancelling does not usually delete anything the moment you confirm. Access typically continues to the end of the period you have paid for, and your automations keep running until then. What changes at the renewal date is the plan you are on, and with it which features remain available to you. That gap is deliberate, and it is the window you should be migrating in.
If you drop to the Free plan, its limits apply from then on: as of October 2026, 25 active contacts a month and up to four live automations. Automations beyond those limits, or that rely on paid-only features, tend to stop firing rather than degrade gracefully. Contact records generally survive while the account exists, but a tool is not an archive, so export what you rely on beforehand rather than after.
Downgrading versus deleting the account
These are different decisions with different consequences. Downgrading keeps the account alive on a free tier along with your connected profile, your flows, and your history. It stops the recurring charge and leaves the door open, which is what most people actually want when they say they want to cancel a subscription during a quiet season or a budget review.
Deleting the account removes it and, in most tools, the data inside it, permanently and with no undo. Choose deletion when you have a specific reason, such as closing a business or clearing personal data, and only once your export is complete and verified. If you are unsure which you want, downgrade now and delete later when you are confident nothing is left behind.
Disconnecting Instagram is a separate step
People often assume that ending a subscription revokes the app's access to their Instagram account. It does not necessarily. The connection between your professional account and the app is a permission you granted through Meta, and it lives on Instagram's side, independent of whether you are still paying the vendor anything at all. Accounts frequently still list tools their owners stopped using months earlier.
To remove it, open your Instagram settings, find the area listing apps and websites with access to your account, and revoke the tool's permission there. This is worth doing whenever you stop using any tool, as a matter of hygiene. The sequencing matters, though: connect and test the replacement first, revoke second, so your comment-to-DM funnel is never sitting unattended.
Refunds and timing
Refund terms differ by vendor and by how you paid, and they get revised, so check ManyChat's current terms and billing policy rather than assuming. The common pattern across subscription software is that cancelling stops future renewals without refunding the period you are currently in, and annual plans are sometimes handled on different terms from monthly ones, so read both sections.
The practical move is to cancel several days before the renewal date rather than just after it, and to keep that date noted somewhere outside the tool. If you have already been charged for a period you will not use, contact support with your confirmation details and ask, because actual practice is often more flexible than published policy, particularly for an accidental annual renewal.
Set up the replacement before you cancel, not after
The mistake that costs most is cancelling first and shopping afterwards. Your existing posts and Reels keep collecting comments whether or not anything is listening. Every comment that arrives during a gap is a person who asked for your link and got silence, and you cannot answer them later, because a private reply must be sent within 7 days of the comment being posted.
A clean migration is a short sequence. List every live automation with its trigger keyword, message copy, and link. Rebuild them in the new tool. Publish one test post and confirm the DM arrives and the link registers a click. Then downgrade or cancel. Then revoke the Instagram permission. In that order there is never a moment where your funnel is dark.
If cost is the reason you are leaving rather than the product, a flat plan removes the variable. DMPilot is free for up to 100 people a month with no card, then $9 a month or $81 a year, covering comment-to-DM with a paired public reply, story reply-to-DM, keyword DM triggers, email capture (Pro), link buttons, and tracked links on the official API. It has no flow builder or WhatsApp, so weigh ManyChat alternatives broadly first.
Frequently asked questions
Where do I cancel my ManyChat subscription?
In the billing or subscription section of account settings in the web dashboard. Mobile views generally do not expose billing controls, and only the workspace owner can change the plan.
Does cancelling ManyChat delete my contacts?
Cancelling usually ends the paid plan at the close of the current period rather than wiping data immediately. Deleting the account is the destructive action, so export contacts and email addresses first either way.
Should I downgrade to free instead of cancelling?
If there is any chance you will return, yes. Downgrading stops the charge while keeping the account, the connected profile, and the automations you built, subject to the free tier caps.
Will cancelling disconnect ManyChat from my Instagram account?
Not necessarily. Revoke the permission yourself in Instagram settings under the section for apps and websites, and do it after your replacement tool is connected and tested.
Can I get a refund on ManyChat?
Refund policy varies and changes, so check their current terms. Subscriptions commonly stop at the end of the paid period without a refund, though it is worth contacting support about an accidental annual renewal.
What should I set up before I cancel?
Your replacement automations, tested on a real post. Comments arriving while nothing is listening cannot be answered later, because private replies must be sent within 7 days of the comment.
